Heart Disease in Large Breed Dogs

  Back

Large breed dogs, such as boxers, dobermans and mastiffs are unfortunately prone to developing heart disease.  While in small breed dogs such as terriers or cavalier King Charles spaniels, heart disease can progress slowly, in larger breeds the disease can progress quickly and respond poorly to treatment.  A new study however has shown that the lifespan of larger breed dogs can be significantly extended provided treatment is commenced at an early stage before they are showing symptoms.
